Suicide Girls

Hmmm...got my e-newsletter from First Ave today and I've been thinking of seeing this show.

Suicide Girls show at the Fine Line

I've never seen a burlesque show, but there are a few here in Minneapolis that I've been interested in checking out. I've been to a few strip clubs in my day, and they were met with my ambivalence. I don't really hate the idea of strip clubs, it's more of a novelty to me, although I do wish they weren't a part of our society. But the idea of burlesque is intriguing to me. It's not really stripping, per se, more artful nudity. Plus, these chicks have pretty cool tats and I like to check out wierd shows, too. However, I think I would have a hard time finding someone to go with me...

Another question...does the fact that I want to go to this show and don't really have an opinion on strip clubs (namely the ones that men patronize) go against my feminist leanings? I've often struggled with this one. I can appreciate the female form for its beauty and would never judge women for going into this line of work. However, does this make me a hypocrite? I'm troubled...

I actually agree with you. I have been to a few strip clubs over the years and find them interesting but wouldn't necessarily like my significant other to attend frequently. There's one in Chicago called Scarlet's I went to once that's quite a place. Just consider a burlesque show a new experience and check the feminist theory at the door.

I've been to the Double Deuce in Nordeast with my then boyfriend, P, interestingly enough. It was for his sister's birthday. I think he was more uncomfortable that I was. I don't think I would really care if my bf went to a strip club, as long as he was up front about it. I know guys are visual and I don't know many men that would actually date a stripper (not that there's anything wrong with dating a stripper, they're people too). But I don't think I would like my hypothetical bf to go all the time. I think I may check out the show anyway, purely for artistic reasons, though!

I don't think that it makes you a hypocrite. It's funny because I am straight and I have never wanted to be with a women in the slightest but I would much rather watch a woman strip than a man.

So, I guess what I'm sayin is that I feel you - or understand what you are sayin. I don't necessarily have an issue with strip clubs. But I've also never been to one.

The feminist thing is difficult. One could argue both ways on the subject of strip clubs. Power - No Power....it all depends on how you look at it.

Shanda- my humble thanks! I like yours too! I'll read more of it when I'm not a work, risking my job to fool around on the interlink!

Des- Stip clubs are fun once, then they just get sad (especially seeing the old men in there). Yeah, and I've seen male strippers too, and it's not pretty. Oily and things flying in your face, just plain wierd!

I saw the suicide girls a couple years ago because my buddies convinced me.

I guess I don't really get it. I like good 'ole fashioned stripping with cock rock pumping in the background. No artsy costumes, cutsy little dancing to old time music, or any of that vaudville stuff.

hehe at the end the girls were messing around with chocolate syrup and I thought, "what a mess they're making."

I don't believe that was the intended point of such a exhibition

I don't know, not my kind of show.

I don't think that makes you a hypocrite. They are there on their own will for people to look at them and admire them.

A burlesque show sounds cool. I'd go.

I say go and have fun.

I agree with Mindi! Have fun! Don't overanalyze!

Boof- the chocolate syrup is why I'm going, I need ideas...hehe!

Kiki, Mindi, and AMG- thanks for the support! I think I'll go! Good excuse to do some tattoo research, anyways...

Hey kitty,
Thanks for the visit.
Suicide Girls.
I saw their page on MySpace. Their hawt! Burlesque(Sp??) is totally cool. It's way classier than strip bars, and more fun for chicks.

I'm dying to see the PussyCat Dolls, with Carmen Electra. They always look awesome.

Puzzy- They are super hot!!! Love all the tats (sleeves are sexy on men and women)!

HBO just had that documentary Pretty Things, all about the old burlesque shows and some of those old gals that are still alive were COOL. No, they were KEWL. I think a true burlesque show would be a beautiful thing to see.

Yeah, I love sleeve tatt's, but only on men. I like my women natural. LOL! Jus kiddin!

You know who was hawt??
Bettie Page, now that's burlesque.
Plus, Ditta Von Teese is not bad either.
I need to go starve myself, if I want to emulate any of them tho. Nah... I'll just watch.
